Description
Originally Rhenish mission station, Amandelboom, founded in 1845 on the banks of the Sak River to house wanderers trekking from spring to spring in search of grazing wst of the Karee Mountains, the town was renamed in 1919 after a former British Cape Colonial Secretary, Colonel Hampden Willis. An important road junction linking most Hantam towns, Williston lies in sheep-farming country bound by the Slangberg (Snake Mountain) Range in the south and a series of pans in the north.
