Kamieskroon 67km South of Springbok
Description
Kamieskroon is set among the granite rock formations of the Kamiesberg range. The town's origins lie in the 1860's, 7km north of it's present position. It took the name Bowesville (later Bowesdorp), after the district surgeon, Dr Henry Bowe. As ther was little room to expend in the narrow kloof the town occupied, the church council decided, in 1924, to demolish the church and rebuild it at Kamieskroon. A school hostel, police station, post office and shops were also built. The site of an Anglo-Boer War Memorial, Kamieskroon is a hikers paradise.
